A Letter to True

"A dog has the soul of a philosopher"(Plato). Bruce Weber's documentary in the Panorama section of the 54th Berlinale confirms just that - with extraordinary grace and beauty. A must-see!

"A Letter to True" is a heart-touching tribute to Bruce Weber's own five Golden Retrievers as well as to all animals and the beauty they bring to our lives.

Weber - an internationally acclaimed photographer and film maker - has made a sublimely beautiful visual essay based on a letter that he writes to his favourite dog -True. As Weber reads the letter to us out loud, he remembers and shares moments in his dog's life and also how much he treasures his four-footed friend. Weber uses personal photographs, archive footage and home movies as True and his doggy friends take us on an unforgettable walk that reveals how a dog's innate noble qualities - unconditional love, loyalty and friendship - are a metaphor for peace and hope in a world that is still recovering from the shock of the bombing of the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001.

"A Letter to True", with readings by Marianne Faithfull and Julie Christie as well as special guest appearances by Dirk Bogarde, Martin Luther King, a very young Elizabeth Taylor and Lassie, is a lyrical and visual poem which is a search for innocence and a celebration of the beauty and fragility of life.

A must-see for dog-lovers and for anyone who wants to see a story about the human spirit ...
