Women-only taxi service

Pink Ladies - a unique private car hire service driven by women for women started running in London on February 24, 2006. Founded by Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders.

On average about ten women a month are victims of rape and sexual assault from using illegal minicabs in London. This has been reduced from 18 a month in 2002 after the Mayor of London launched a campaign against London´s illegal minicabs.

Out of these concerns for women travellers and the dangers of unlicensed minicab drivers Pink Ladies, has thankfully, been born! The members-only service has been found founded by Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders, who have already tried and successfully tested the service in Warrington which is between Manchester and Liverpool.

Winders says that it is unlicensed drivers and cars, often preying on women after a night out, that can be extremely dangerous. Feedback from women members who have used the trial service in Warrington revealed that many women feel much happier with a female driver.

At first the London service - a fleet of 15 pink Renault Kangaroo cars with satellite tracking driven by self defence-trained, uniformed (in pink, of course!) lady drivers - will cover the centre of London in Zone 1. Over the next 12 to 18 months the service will be expanded to cover Zones 1-3.

The policy of Pink Ladies is ´prevention is better than a cure´ and concentrates on increased awareness. Not only do the Pink Ladies take members home but they will wait outside making sure that they have made it safely through their front door, at no extra cost, ensuring even more peace of mind.

Another safety and convenience feature is that the Pink Ladies cabs will never have cash on board. Members are issued a swipe card that can be topped up with a major credit card online or with cash at shops displaying the PayPoint logo.

The benefits for members aren´t limited to the cab service. There is also a community driven website called Think Pink Inc, combining a directory with online networking to create a marketplace exclusively tailored to women´s needs.

Pink Ladies also support Breast Cancer Care. By joining Pink Ladies (London) 10% of membership fee is donated to this charity.
